Celebrating MES Success!

Mansfield Elementary School's girls track team placed first at the Junior National Olympics. The team was led to victory by Coach Mychal Word!

Message from the principal

Happy New Year!  I am so excited about the start of this 2017-2018 school year.  It has already been filled with lots of excitement and memorable moments.  Perhaps one of the most exciting occurred in June when we received news from the Louisiana State Department of Education informing us that we are projected to grow 11.2 points in our School Performance Score (SPS).  If the projections are accurate we will be labeled as a “C” school.  While we are proud of this accomplishment, this is just the beginning.  We are in it to win it: excellence is the expectation, and we won’t stop until we earn the distinction of being labeled as an “A” school.  Though we’re not yet labeled as an “A” school, our students are “A’ rated.  On June 29th, four of our students placed first at the Junior National Olympics held in Lawrence, Kansas. The team was led to victory by Coach Mychal Word! In addition to this spectacular accomplishment, we were awed by the awesome attendance at our Open House.  Our faculty and staff spent countless hours beautifying our MES “home” to ensure it was ready to welcome our wonderful students along with their dedicated family members.  It was such a blessing to see over 300 parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles walk the halls of our school to meet teachers as well as interact with district and community leaders.  Our Open House also provided parents the opportunity to join the Wolverine PAC.  The PAC (Parent Action Committee) was formed to support the efforts of and promote a positive image of the Mansfield cluster of schools.   Some parents, like me, did not have cash on hand L, but still pledged their support.  Please make an effort to join this group.  If we want others to believe in our schools and our students, we must first BELIEVE.  The African proverb, “It takes a village to raise a child,” still rings true.   I am so blessed by members of the village of Mansfield who support us.  This support was shown by DPSB members Bobby Boyd, Tommy Craig, and Donnie DuFour who were in attendance at our Open House as well as Superintendent Dr. Cade Brumley and Director of Student Learning Dr. Darrell Hampton.  Support was also shown by Living Word ChurchSenior Pastors Paul and Casey Floyd and other church members provided refreshments and school supplies to our Open House attendees.  The entire experience reminded me of a big family reunion.  There was lots of laughter, food, music, and fun.  I was so excited about the amazing turnout that I had to “get my groove on”!  I “heard” that it was posted to Facebook and has received over
